Moral Empowerment of Today's Youth

As someone said, overnight success requires at least 10 years of smart work. Reaching pinnacles of glory or highest points in ones academic or professional career requires a war-like preparation. It requires meticulous planning, regular allocation of time, whole hearted liking for the process and result, several rehearsals and finally execution with surgical precision.

Excelling in education gives immense scope for anyone to occupy positions of Authority and an opportunity to show ones knowledge and skill while discharging ones duties. Today's student is tomorrow's leader and unless they are taught basic leadership skills like Elocution and Public Speaking, our students cannot stand out in the crowd and their chance of leading from the front, will become bleak.

And it is the responsibility of both Parents and Teachers to teach their children moral values in life, so that when they grow up and take up key posts, they work not for themselves and for their relatives but for the downtrodden and disadvantaged people of the society. In the days of joint family in India, wherein all the children alongwith their spouses, lived together with their parents, daily dose of counselling was done by all the seniors to younger generation.

With the rise of industrial townships, families started disintegrating from their agrarian occupations to employment. Though the transformation looked exciting in the beginning, the 2+2 family set up has started showing its negative impact on the lives and lifestyles on the generation that came after 90's. Kids dont listen to their parents after 12th standard. At this age, they require outside guidance for character development. Lots of options are available for career development but not for development of values. And hence the social unrest.

Who has to take the onus for this ??

All of us, because we cannot be mute spectators for the deterioration of values in the society. Religious teaching may be of little help, even though they try to convey the message through a story or through an anecdote. They should be combined with a regular dose of councelling either at home or at college. Organising camps, with character building as one of its objectives, will give scope for family get togethers and we have to take out time for that.

Asking children to take up social work will expose them the harsh realities of the world and only with such practical experience, they can build their character. It may have little impact and that will make a lot of difference as they go along.

Energy with character, will build better societies
